"There
is good news: Skin cancer can be prevented. The challenge, however,
lies in changing the attitudes and behaviors that increase a person's
risk of developing skin cancer."
-David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., Former U.S. Surgeon General
and Assistant Secretary of Health
"Since
I knew I wouldn't be able to wear the black ribbon for Melanoma Monday
tomorrow because I am going to be in surgery, I spent the day postering
town with signs I made. I hope people are moved to check their skin
and see a dermatologist. I am proud to have contributed to the community.
Wish me luck tomorrow! Since the surgery is on Melanoma Monday, though,
I already feel lucky!"
- Sabra Dalby Rightmire (1971 - 1999) to friends
on May 3, 1999.
